FV105 SULTAN
The FV105 Sultan that can be seen at the Heritage Centre.

When the CVR(T) series of aluminum light armoured vehicles was designed, a full range of variants was considered including the FV105 Sultan command vehicle.

The FV105 Sultan was fitted with a higher roof to give it a more comfortable “office space” in the main compartment which includes a large, vertical map board, desk and a bench seat for three people. Forward of this there is space for a radio operator and the vehicle commander who sits on a seat that can be raised to operate a pintle-mounted 7.62mm General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG). The driver sits forward of this position in a small compartment next to the engine bay that provides additional protection for the aluminum armour protecting the occupants from small arms fire and artillery shell splinters.

Additionally, the vehicle is also fitted with a Nuclear, Biological & Chemical (NBC) protection system and eight smoke dischargers fitted to the front of the vehicle.

The Engine is a Jaguar J60 4.2 litre in-line 6-cylinder petrol coupled to a TN15X cross drive hot shift 7 speed gearbox, giving the vehicle a top speed in excess of 50 mph.
